year.
'A' Barrie-Toronto serves the news and entertainment interests
of an audience of over three million viewers. Watch for the
creative and exciting televison commercials promoting
Festival XVI beginning in early June.
YAMAHA PIANO CONCERTS SERIES
A
nine-foot CFIIIS Yamaha Concert Grand Piano will grace the Rotunda
at Barrie City Hall for the seventh year, and will be the focal point
for an abundance of recitals, concerts and shows
for Twelve Days in June.
For another year, in its continuing commitment to providing the finest
of musical instruments to worthy exhibitions, Yamaha Music Canada
is making its première piano available
to The Barrie Jazz And Blues Festival XVI. The completely free concerts
will include the ever-popular Jazz and Blues "OUT TO LUNCH CONCERTS"
weekdays from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. from June 10 to 20, not including
Saturdays or Sundays. Great Jazz concert pianists will perform on
the evenings of June 10 and 11 and June 16, 17 and 18. Piano Teachers
and Students Recitals will be presented every day except Sundays during
the afternoon and early evening.

Information on Rules and Regulations will be available shortly. The Registration
Fee is only $10.00 and the proceeds will be directed to the support of the
Family Resource Centre at Canadian Forces Base Borden, the Barrie Police
Services "Kids And Cops" Charity Golf Tournament for Paediatric
Care, and the Canadian Cancer Society for Prostate Cancer Research. The
BBQ Challenge will take place in Barrie's Heritage Park on Saturday, June
18 and Father's Day, June 19, 2011. The Barrie Cares BBQ Challenge will
be adjudicated by knowledgeable, community judges, will present trophies
to the winners, and entrants will have a chance to win some great prizes!!!
GOLDEN AGE OF JAZZ PIANO A FEATURE OF YAMAHA PIANO CONCERT SERIES. COUNT BASIE - DUKE ELLINGTON, MARY LOU WILLIAMS, EARL "FATHA" HINES, MILES DAVIS and GEORGE GERSHWIN will all be present in spirit during this year's piano concert series. Reflection, performance and analysis on the life and work of the Jazz piano giants and a Jazz trumpet giant will be presented by a stellar group of great Jazz pianists. Matt Herskowitz will present George Gershwin; D.D. Jackson - Miles Davis; Scott Boyer and the Skyliners - Count Basie-Duke Ellington; The Mark Eisenman Trio - Earl " Fatha" Hines; The Fern Lindzon Trio - Mary Lou Williams. All concerts will be held in the Rotunda, Barrie City Hall and will start at 8:00 p.m. This free concert series is sponsored by STOLLAR CONSTRUCTION.

The beauty of Jazz music performed by talented Artists from near and far will waft throughout the Barrie Public Library for four days during the lunch-time. Jazz ensembles will perform in the Moore Packaging Reading Garden situated on the roof of the library and over-looking Barrie's downtown. The music can be enjoyed throughout the neighbourhood surrounding the library as well. The "Family Jazz Time" on June 11 is sponsored by Graham Partners LLP and begins at 10:30 in the morning.
CONTINUES TRADITION OF PROVIDING GREAT GUITAR FOR GREAT CANADIAN GUITARISTS CONCERT SERIES. Barrie's most comprehensive musical instrument sales and service store, Music Pro Ltd., is donating another Epiphone "Les Paul" electric guitar - valued at over $700.00 - to be won by some lucky Festival guest. The draw for this beautifully finished solid-body instrument - almost identical to the legendary Gibson work horse - will take place at The Centre Stage in Heritage Park on Sunday June 19, 2011. Entry forms will be available at Music Pro Ltd. at 56 Barrie View Drive and must be deposited at the store no later than 5:00 p.m. on Saturday June 18, 2010. Entrants must be present at the time of the draw in order to win.
"THE SKYLINERS" TO HOST BACKSTAGE VIEW OF BIG BAND REHEARSAL. Participants in School Music Programmes throughout Simcoe County are invited to attend a rehearsal of "The Skyliners" community Big Band in The Rotunda of Barrie City Hall on Saturday, June 11. In keeping with the objectives of STOLLAR CONSTRUCTION LTD., an educational opportunity for aspiring music Artists has been programmed into the YAMAHA Piano Concert Series. It is hoped that this "behind the scenes" look at the management of a Big Band will encourage music students to pursue their Art with a new understanding of the the complexities inherent in the world of music.

BARRIE'S PREMIER DANCE AND SWING BAND "THE SKYLINERS" TO PERFORM IN YAMAHA PIANO CONCERT SERIES. The "Make Believe Ballroom" takes a break on Thursday, June 17 to join in Festival XVI and present a concert dedicated to the greatest Swing Band of the 1930s and 40s. Band leader and pianist, Scott Boyer, will lead the popular,18-piece community Big Band, "The Skyliners", through all the favourite music created by The Benny Goodman Band and more. A concert itinerary will be available soon. The Concert is free and a donation to BARRIE CARES would be appreciated.
